Death

They arrived to the Mill. Meggie and Dustfinger went inside with the Miller while Farid searched for Gwin who had escape. Inside Basta was waiting for them with Slasher. Dustfinger didn't know what to do but luckily Farid started a fire which scared Basta away. He took Meggie and made her jump out the hole, then Dustfinger was about to jump but he fell down when he stranded up. Slasher
was between him and The window Farid climbed up again and the Slasher had opened Dustfingers leg when he was about to put the sword through his chest. Farid bit him and kicked hin really hard until he let go off the sword and then threw him to the fire. Basta appeared but Dustfinger made fire eat them up. He jumped out the hole with Farid and rubbed for their lives. Dustfinger thanked Farid for saving his life and promised him to show some new tricks. Farid was really happy. Meggie couldn't sleep he kissed her and promised to free her father and they will leave in the Inkworld happily ever after. She soon went to sleep and thought it was the best night of his life. Fenoglio was really happy with himself since he had finally found the correct words to help Meggie. He went to Cosimo castle where he received the new that the war was about to start. He begged Cosimo to wait 2 weeks but he didn’t say a word. Latter he went to Roxane and gave her a letter which contained the words that will save Mo. She was leaving to find Dustfinger so Fengolio took advantage of it and gave her the letter. Roxane put the words in her pocket and promised Fengolio that she will departure very early in the morning. Before Fengolio disappeared the same way he came and told her that Dustfinger was trapped but he tried to come to her all these years like a dog searching for his master. She was happy to hear this. Dustfinger, Meggie and Farid went to the physician. Bella received them and opened the door letting them inside. They went towards the Barn Owl’s room. They went inside. It was a dark place with millions of books.  Bella treated Farid’s blisters and Dustfinger’s leg. Roxane arrived. She found Dustfinger sleeping. They went to the beach to hand the letter to Meggie. Meggie read the words and wished to read them there.  Roxane didn’t understand what was going on Dustfinger tried to explain but she couldn’t understand. Meggie went to read the words out loud.  Meggie started reading the letter. She heard steps going through the corridor. Roxane opened the door and told Meggie guards from the Castle of Night’s had come to get her. She gave herself to Firefox and they started walking towards the castle. But Dustfinger and Farid weren’t in the house. She didn’t finish reading she just hoped to be able to finish. Meggie arrived to the Adderhead’s castle. Inside she was taken to the hall were the prince was feasting. It was so luxurious that the laughing prince’s throne room seemed a farmhouse. Inside Meggie followed the letter that Fengolio gave her and it came out perfectly. The Adderhead let her see her father. But the deal was that they make Meggie and Mo a book that while it was alive and in perfect status he will live taking away his fear of death. Mo was sleeping when Meggie came. She wake him up. Mo was so happy she was so grown up and look like her mother. Mo asked her about Fengolios plan and about Farid. Mo discovered many new things about Meggie and before going to sleep they played a game they used to play in which they imagine a book they wished to be in.

Resa was in the crypt, her feet were bleeding and her dress was torn. Mortola came to see her. She thought that the Magpie will tell her that Mo was dead but instead she said Mo was alive which made her really happy. Resa told Mortola that she will be really glad to see her dead by her daughter that will kill her with her words. Dustfinger showed Farid how to play with fire and water. At the 4 attempt, Farid did it and then they spread fire and water through their skin making them invisible until sunrise. They walked pass the gate and Farid still couldn’t believe that people couldn’t see him. Dustfinger went to tell Resa about Meggie’s plan. He went through the guards who take him no notice. After going down many stairs he made it. He wrote Resa’s name in the wall making her notice him. After he told her he was invisible and that Mo was ok and that Meggie was with him in the tower.

Mo finished doing the book for the Adderhead, by sunrise he hand it in. In exchange they will be free. As they were walking through the forest the Magpie and Basta carried out an ambushed which killed many. Farid was one of the many who were killed. Dustfinger was crying like a river and so he decided to exchange his life for his’ when the White Women came to fetch him. Farid was desperate when he woke up. He told Fenoglio to write something so that Dustfinger could come back from the dead but he didn’t wish to write since the words turned against his will. Orpheus arrived and he didn’t listen much to him. Actually, Farid ended up as Orpheus‘s slave.

There was a quote in the book that took my attention and made me think harder about the cues given and what might happen next. This quote is when Dustfinger wishes to make a deal with the White Women.

“…”A story about the White Women”… “And remind her of my promise- that I’ll always find a way back to her, wherever I am…”” (Funke, 596)

I can infer from this quote that Dustfinger will exchange his life for Farid. I infer this because in the second part of the quote, Dustfinger says to Meggie that he will always find Roxane which means that he will leave to a faraway place in which he will try to get back and find his love. I also think he will try to convince the white women not to take Farid because of the first part of the quote which states that “story about the White Women”. This means that a White Woman is involved, and White women are ghosts that take away the soul of the people meaning that Dustfinger will make a deal with death.

There was another quote in the book that took my attention. This quotes it is when Meggie lays down in her father’s chest in the mine.

“… She went quietly back to her parents, laid her head on Mo’s chest, and fell asleep hearing his heartbeat in her ear…” (Funke, 609)

This quote made me remember when I was little and I used to lay down in my father’s chest. I like hearing the sound of my father’s heart because they sounded peaceful and I felt harmony and safety inside. In the weekends, when I was 6 to 7 years old, I used to wake up and ran to my parent’s bed and lay beside my dad and listen to his heart while he watched TV. He used to touch my hair and we had small conversations.

In the book Inkspell, there were many themes presented in the book. But the theme that stand out most to me was friendship. This theme is presented in many scenes of the book and demonstrated the importance of it. For example, when Dustfinger saved Farid’s life and handed in his. This scene demonstrates love and friendship between two close friends. I learn from this book that it is important to value friend’s company and always give them support went they most need it.

The Message

Farid told Dustfinger that Cosimo was back from the death. Roxane told his husband that his friend Cloud-Dancer send him a message and so he headed towards Ombra were he will meet Farid along with Meggie and he will also take the medicine that Nettle ask Roxane for. Dustfinger arrived to Ombra and found an old enemy, his name was Piper. They had a tense talk about coming back from the dead. Piper was about to hit Dustfinger but luckily a Laughing Prince’s guard appeared giving Dustfinger a chance to scape. He gave the medicine to Nettle and received the message that Cloud-Dancer had for him. When he saw Meggie with Farid he didn’t know how to tell her that her father was injured by a riffle but he had to. As soon as he told her the news Meggie
ran towards Fengolio’s place asked him to write something to heel her father and as soon as she had the words she departed immediately to the Secret camp. When they arrived they saw something they didn’t wish to see the tents were on the floor and there were lifeless bodies on the grass. Seeing this catastrophe, Dustfinger order the children to stay back. When he saw it was safe, they went inside the cave, there was a straw bed with dry blood and bear prints. Dustfinger told Meggie not to worry because it was a good sign that the Black Prince’s bear had been inside the cave and that it was also a good sign that there was no one inside which indicated that they had escaped.  Dustfinger followed the track that the Adderhead’s man had left. Dustfinger abandon the Secret camp alone to follow the track. When Cloud-Dancer and Nettle arrived to the secret camp Meggie told Cloud-Dancer to tell Roxane that Dustfinger needed to help and old friend so that he will take a while to get home and she also told him to inform Fengolio that she was going to take a while to go to him. As soon as they sad that to Cloud-Dancer they went behind Dustfinger. They were tired and decided to go to sleep right before Dustfinger told them he knew the followed and he was starring the nightmares, trees, and trolls away. Cloud-Dancer arrived to Fengolio place and told him the message he didn’t know that just a few minutes before, Basta and Slasher had entered to search for Meggie they meet at the stairways, Fengolio gave many indirect words which made Cloud-Dancer understand that they weren’t alone. They ran but Cloud-Dancer was captured. Fengolio wanted to help him so he started telling Basta were Meggie was heading. Cloud-Dancer tied to get away but Basta’s knife was faster so his knife went through Cloud-Dancer chest, leaving him dead. Dustfinger, Meggie and Farid soon arrived and Meggie saw her father and mother. She started walking as a prisoner and the Moss-Women picked Meggie to help her with her job. They entered the tent and there she help the Moss-Women to cure Mo. When Mo saw her, he couldn’t believe it he was so happy after some treatment, Meggie had to leave. When the night began, Dustfinger freed the Black Prince and his bear, he took advantage that Farid was playing with fire distracting the guards. Meanwhile Meggie entered the stable were Resa was and hand her a note which said that tomorrow when they headed to the Castle of Night in the tree fallen in the middle of the road the prisoners should scape to the left side were they will be safe. The prisoners were walking on the road, Resa had told many of them about the fallen tree and that the prisoners needed to escape to the left. They arrived to the tree and the soldiers step forward with their horses to move the tree. The tree burned in flames and the prisoners ran only a few stayed the Piper told the soldiers to go fetch the prisoners they didn't bus soon came back because they heard the bear roar and thought the bear was a Night-Mare the Piper send them again they went very slow but they came back with no prisoners. Meggie didn’t find her father between the people that had escaped but she has happy because she didn’t find her mother either which meant that they were together. The Black Prince told Meggie that he will save her father no matter what. Meggie was happy because of this favor the prince will do to her. Mo and Resa arrived to the Castle of Night were they were separated, Resa was taken to the crypt and Mo to a tower.

There was a quote on the book that took my attention, it was when Elinor reflected about being the maid of Orpheus:

“No this just couldn’t go on. Acting the kitchen maid in her own house, with a horrible man in her library throwing her books on the floor, treating them like boxes of chocolates, nibbling something from one book there, another there. ” (Funke, 368)

This quote made me think about the importance of the books in life. Books are very delicate objects, they need to be threatened the correct way because they are able to break very easily. They needed to be taken care of not just being thrown in the floor just like Orpheus treated them. Books are able to teach us many things and take us to places that aren’t able to been seen. They give us hope and also knowledge, books as well prepare us for the future. The people that are able to have books are very luckily since they can learn and have a great time with books and people should respect them because books are able to prepare us for circumstances that we haven’t been on or teach us about other cultures or worlds.

There was another quote that took my attention, it was when Farid started playing with fire.

“The boy carried his task with as cool head as Meggie. Apparently lost to the world but in a spot where the men guarding the Prince has a clear view of him, he began making fire dance as naturally as if he were standing in some marketplace…” (Funke, 388-389)

This quote made me remember of a magic show I went with my uncle in the Coliseum Ruminahui. The magician did many tricks which included, playing with fire, making thinks appear and disappear, and he also made snow fall from his hands. When the magician did tricks with fire, I got really scared because he made a women that was sleeping go through it and he also threw them really high. I spend a great time with my uncle seeing how the magician threw the fire into the air just like Farid.

I predict that in the next chapters, Mo’s execution will arrive but it will be at the night. Dustfinger and Farid turn off all the touches but theirs, making the guards leave Mo unattended.  Meanwhile Meggie will rescue her mother and search for her father in the dark. The Black Prince will help Meggie untie Mo and soon leave the Castle of Nights behind heading towards Fengolio’s house. They will find Basta in Fengolio house but he didn’t do anything because he feared Bears. The finally found Fengolio in Roxane’s house and he had already wrote something to make Mo, Resa and Meggie go back to their world. Farid was really depressed since Meggie left him but he had an idea, he made Fengolio read a piece of paper out of the book making Meggie read it. It said 3 words that made Meggie really happy, “I love you”. So Meggie promised Farid to visit him in the book at least one time a week.

Returning to the Story

Fengolio wrote stories of a man named Bluejay, he was like Robin Hood. While he was talking with the Black Prince, he told Fengolio that his stories had come true and that the Bluejay was giving to the poor. He also noticed that the Adderhead was paying great amount for his head. The Black Prince also told Fengolio that he had found two children on the Wayless Wood, they went to see the children and Fengolio noticed it was Meggie and Farid. Fengolio was really happy to see them but he also had a lot of questions to ask Meggie like, for example, if his plan and words had worked and that if the shadow had disappeared and how Silvertongue was and all the rest. Farid went to accomplish his mission and warn Dustfinger about Basta, while Meggie stayed with Fengolio. Meggie went to sleep in a bed that Fengolio once used, he also told her that the next day they were going to visit the Laughing Prince to hand him a story because he was celebrating his grandson birthday. They went to the palace and gave the story that he had written, even though it was sad because his son, Cosimo the Fair had died, it pleased the prince.  They went to see the festivities outside.
Farid found Dustfinger playing with fire. He ran as fast as he could towards him and Dustfinger was very pleased to see his appendix. He told Dustfinger the bad news about Basta had come to the book and came for revenge towards him.  Roxane at first thought that Farid was Dustinger´s son but when she notice that he was only his student she invited him to stay inside. They went to the Prince of Sight´s grandson Jacopo festivities were Farid started to throw torches and gain some coins; more and more people gathered around him to see him preform and Dustfinger was very proud of him. He was watching from a roof top and he also saw his daughter and because of her ugliness, he didn’t dare to go to see her.  He talked to his old friend the Black Prince and introduced his new marten Jink. He also saw Meggie and Fengolio on the back.
Fengolio saw that his story wasn’t being normal because Cosimo had died so he had an idea using Meggie words, he was going to bring to life someone who looked like Cosimo so that his story will go back to track. Meggie read it on the house she was staying and Cosimo started to walk through the streets. Farid knocked on the door and Meggie went to see him, he asked Meggie to go with him to Dustfinger’s place because he was feeling jealous about his wife since now Dustfinger want paying much attention to him. They went downstairs to say goodbye and Farid kissed Meggie and then left, telling Meggie to go to Dustfinger´s house.
Magpie ordered Basta to free Mo, Resa, Elinor and Darius so they can have a meeting. She told them all that she wanted to take revenge over his son Capricorn; she thought that he was still alive but in the Inkworld so her plan was that Orpheus will read them (her, Basta and Mortimer) into the story. When Orpheus started reading, Resa went to Mo´s side so she will also get in the book. When they finally were in the Inkworld , Magpie saw the fortress of his son abandoned;  she faced that his son was also dead in the world that he came from, she was so mad at Mo that she shot him. Luckily Resa
pulled him and he was shot in the shoulder. Magpie and Basta left them alone. Resa was so afraid because Mo didn’t answer her, she had her voice back but she couldn’t do nothing since she was afraid that the wolves might come. An old lady came and promised to help them, so she went to a nearby village to get help and told Resa to be careful because the White women might take Mo.  She saw the White women approach them but she scared them away and prohibit them to see Mo injured. The old lady came back and took them to a cave were Mo was cured, he was incontinent but he was better. He could listen but he didn’t talk much. People who were nearby may suspected that he might be the Bluejay but she denied that her husband could be. Resa gives a note to Cloud-Dancer to give it to Dustfinger which said that if he could help her find his daughter. Cloud-Dancer promised to give the note to the Fire eater. People insisted that Mo was the Bluejay and made a plan to take him to Capricon´s old fortress because they didn’t wanted to be hanged; but the Black Prince came and saved Resa because she claimed to know Dustfinger so they were safe under the Prince protection.

There was a quote that took my attention since it made me remember of a movie I’ve seen before; it was when Fengolio thought about the black prince companion, his bear:

“… Fengolio told himself: Why did you have to make the Prince´s companion a tame bear? A dog would have done just as well. The market traders told anyone who listened that the bear was a man under a spell, bewitched by fairies or brownies. ” (Funke, 136)

This quote made me remember of the Disney movie “Brave” because in the movie there are two bears. One of the bear’s names is Mordu which is a prince that was turned into a bear by an old lady. And the others bear’s name is Elinor which is the queen that has turned into a bear by a poison. This relates to the book because the people on the market thought that the prince companion was a man under a spell. In the case of Mordu, he became a bad spirit, suffering and living in pain because que couldn’t manage his feelings; in the other hand, Elinor was a good bear-spirit but as time is running, her daughter had to figure out how can she fixed their feelings and return her mother back to normal before she became a bad spirit as Mordu.

There was another quote that took my attention which was when Meggie was feeling homesick:

“… All this beauty around her, yet she kept thinking of Elinor’s house and Mo´s workshop… Her heart was so stupid! Hadn’t it always beat faster when Resa told her about the Inkworld? And now that she was here, really here, it didn’t seem to know just what it ought to feel. It’s because the others aren’t here, too, something inside her whispered, as if her heart were trying to defend itself. Because they’re none of them here.” (Funke, 152)

This quote made me think about the importance of family. Even if your wish comes true there is a time you feel empty that is because you think about the people who love you and that always are supporting you. Meggie felt empty because even if she was where she had wished to be, she isn’t sharing it with the people she love and she isn’t spending as good as she hopped to. It is important that we start to value our family and give thanks to all the moments we are able to spend with them because they will always support you and be by your side.

In the last chapters, of the book Inkspell by Cornelia Funke there is a theme that was demonstrated on every chapter which is the importance of friendship.  It is said explicitly that we should value the friendship we have with others because we have spent great time with them and learned how we can spend many time together. We should also be willing to help them when they are needed and spend time with those who we love. In conclusion, friendship is s theme presented in the story which we should learn much and care about.

Lost in Different Worlds

Dustfinger and Farid were waiting anxiously for Orpheus, a reader that is able to take out and place characters on a story. Orpheus had promised Dustfinger to return him home, they agreed on it but the only thing that Dustfinger requested was that Farid comes with him. While Orpheus was reading, there was a heavy wind and Dustfinger disappeared; he was back to the story he belonged. Then Farid was waiting his turn but nothing happened because Orpheus didn’t want to modify the story with new characters that never existed. Suddenly, Farid felt a knife on his throat, it was Basta. Orpheus interfered calming the problem.  While the three of them were talking, Basta’s arm loosen a little enough for Farid to bite him and run away, he ran until his legs didn’t respond, he fell and grab the paper that took Dustfinger to “Inkworld” and hid on a tree; Basta shouted threatening him and people he knew specially Mo and Meggie by saying he will kill them all. He found Gwin and went to search Meggie because she could re-unite him with his master, Dustfinger.

Dustfinger was home he couldn’t believe it. He touched every flower and remembered every creature
he had once known. He was so happy to be back home but once in a while, Dustfinger missed Farid and his company. He crossed the “Wayless Wood” into a cottage where he re-united with his friend Cloud-Dancer where he was updated with the news that had happened 10 years ago. Cloud-Dancer invited Dustfinger to perform his art for the Laughing prince grandson. Dustfinger agreed because it was near his wife’s farm. When he finally saw Roxana, his wife, Dustfinger couldn’t believe it because it has been 10 years since the last time he saw her.

Mo, Resa, Meggie, Darus and Elinor were living together at Elinor’s, they were all happy together. Mo had now its own workshop, Resa has found a way to communicate with her hands, Darus helped Elinor classify her books, and
Meggie loved listening to stories based on her mother experience on Inkworld, even though this could cause a quarrel between them because Meggie wrote the stories down on a notebook. Farid had arrived at Elinors telling everyone what happened with Dustfinger. Elinor cured his feet which were full of scratches because he ran on the forest. Meggie couldn’t sleep
because she was afraid of Basta coming for his revenge. That night, Meggie heard a knock on her door; it was Farid begging her to read him in the book with the paper that had taken Dustfinger to his world; Meggie agreed but only if she will go too. Meggie was very cuious to know the other world, so she passed the messy hand-writing to her letter and soon read it out loud. But before she left a letter for her parents so that they could know where she was heading. Meggie read Orpheus letters with a simple modification, only adding 3 letters “the little girl” and soon they were on a forest were the trees grew straight up, fairies flying around; they had made it to the Inkworld.
Mo read the letter Maggie had left them, he was very sad about it, Resa was also depressed and everyone else in the house. The doorbell rang, Elinor answered because Mo and Teresa were at the workshop and Darius was upstairs. She opened the door and what a surprise she had found! It was Orpheus, Basta, and Mortola. One by one, the three of them captured all in the house, then they searched for Meggie with no result, still, Mortola didn’t believe them what had happened to Meggie so she locked up Elinor, Darius, Mo, and Resa searching for the girl.

There was a quote on the book that took my attention, it was when Dustfinger was going to be read on the book and Farid asked if he was going to take Gwin:

“Gwin stays here, ´ he said. If he had announced that he was planning to leave his right arm behind, Farid couldn’t have looked at him more incredulously. ´Why are you staring to me like that? Well catch ourselves another marten once we´re there, one that’s not so ready to bite.” (Funke, 8)

I can analyze form this quote many things about Dustfinger’s behavior towards leaving Gwin on the world. You should never leave your right hand arm behind because they have giving you the support in tough times, even if it is an animal or a person, you can’t replace them. In the parts that says “.. Well catch ourselves another marten…” reflects that Dustfinger doesn’t care about leaving someone behind and replacing. When you have a companion that in Dustfinger case has helped him on his journey, you need to accept him with or without defects and learn to live with them because a true friend doesn’t leaves no one behind.

Another quote that took my attention because it made me remember when I was little, is when a child asks Fengolio to tell a story for them:

“´Will you tell us another story about him today? Please! ´ ´Maybe! I just admit…´”     (Funke, 132)

This quote made me connect when I was little and I stayed at my grandpas house were they used to tell us stories. Some of the stories they told my sister and I were about horses and other about some elephants. We used to get in our pajamas and get ready to bed so that my grandpa could read us a story; when it was early; he used to tell us two. But we always ask him to tell us more stories. My favorite was about a woman who saved his love by scaring the horse away from the bad guys. I used to bother my grandpa every night so that he read me that story.

I predict that in the next chapters, there will be an unexpected change of events in the story. I think that Meggie and Farid will find Dustfinger but after meeting with Firefox the new leader after Capricon and scape from him by lies, so now they were the most wanted of him since they stole a precious object. Dustfinger took them with Fengolio and together thought in a solution to distract Firefox. They threw a spell on them, giving enough time to think of a solution to take Meggie out of the book. On the other hand, Mo was trying to get in the story by writing on the lock room they were placed on. Mo did it appearing near Dustfinger’s wife. She helped him search for Meggie and finally was re-united and went back to the real world.

The Shadow

Elinor was in the police station. She told everything to the police, one of them believed her but the other one thought she had escaped from an asylum.  The police officer that believed her, told Elinor to get in the car so that they could head towards the village. On the way there, the police told Elinor that he had heard about that village and all the cruelties so he wanted to see if he was able to help. They arrived at the village and he started talking to Capricorn, he covered his truth with lies.  The police left Elinor in the village and he left. Elinor couldn’t believe how dumb she was. Crockerell took her to the crypt on Capricorn’s orders and locked her up in Resa’s cell. She couldn’t believe it, she didn’t know if she should cry or be happy because it was the first time in years that she saw her favorite niece.

Basta came into the room taking Meggie to see Mortola. Meggie asked what the shots were that she heard yesterday. Basta told her that they had shot Mo. Meggie felt empty for she didn’t know if Mortimer was dead. When they arrived, it seemed like her place was a
Museum of photos for she had gold frames around pictures of people, and places. Behind Magpie’s chair, there was a self-portrait of his son. It seemed so real that for a moment Meggie felt his presence. Magpie told Meggie that she was brought there because she wanted to make Meggie skim through the chapter so that she could not make any mistakes. Magpie took her near a chest, which contained two poisonous snakes. Basta took them out, and deep down there was the last copy of the book Inkheart. Magpie made Meggie read in her head, she didn’t read because she was thinking of Mo. She stopped reading and told Mortola that Basta had told her that her father was shot, so Mortola talked harshly to Basta and then ordered him to take her to her room. But before leaving, Magpie answered Meggie’s question about all the pictures, so she answered that they were people who no longer existed for they were Capricorn’s enemies. Meggie also demanded to see Dustfinger for the last time before he was executed. Basta took Meggie to the crypt to see Dustfinger and Resa. Secretly, Dustfinger gave Meggie a note, she read the note behind Basta’s back. He caught her reading the note but luckily Meggie read the paper which explained that Teresa was her mother. She was fast enough to give it to Dustfinger and he ripped up the note. Basta was furious, Dustfinger took advantage of this and
challenged him to a duel. Basta accepted and entered the cell. Resa got out and hugged Meggie. Basta was scared since Dustfinger was threating him with his fear, death. He acted faster than Basta and got his knife, he was about to kill him, but he saw Meggie’s face, he couldn’t do it.  Instead he locked up Basta. Basta started shouting for help, Flatnose came but Dustfinger had left with the keys, so he locked up Resa and took Meggie to her room.  Fengolio wrote and wrote that evening, there were crumbled papers on the floor. Fengolio finally wrote the right words, he jumped in excitement. He carefully gave them to Meggie. Magpie arrived and gave Meggie a dress and supper. She wanted to wear what she had and she wasn’t hungry. Meggie was blue, so when Mortola left she started to cry. Fengolio was there for her so he reminded her of her father, Farid, Elinor, her mother and Dustfinger who had told her that she wasn’t alone. Meggie felt much better, even though she didn’t like the dress because it was white, the color of death, she put the dress on and started practicing how to put the papers inside her dress and take them out. Magpie arrived and took Meggie by the arm dragging her.

They searched everywhere for Dustfinger but he was never found for he stayed in the village. He kept shelter at Basta’s house. Dustfinger was surprised since Basta’s house was clean as the snow. Dustfinger heard Tink on the second floor. He went up to investigate and he freed Tinker Bell from the jar, but she was too weak. Dustfinger took her to the kitchen and fed her milk. Tank got better so she started to explore around the house. After a while of investigating, Tink looked outside, but Dustfinger said she wouldn’t like it because it’s cruel.

Farid and Mo were still on the mountains.  They were sticking to the plan of setting fire to the village, so Farid was putting the torches in a bag. After he cut Mo’s hair and showed him how to use sand to make his skin look darker. While they were getting ready, they heard some voices, it was Capricorn’s men. Farid knew a place to hide so he made Mo follow him. They hid under an old metal plank beside a skeleton that was curled up like a little boy. The voices passed by them so they showed themselves and continued with the plan.  Mo thanked Farid for he gave him unconditional help, and also told him that he was very glad to be with
someone like him.  Farid and Mo left camp and run into the village. They saw that the event was happening in the football field. Hidden from sight, they went to the main square and saw Magpie dragging Meggie. Mo wanted to go and help her but luckily Farid hold him back because he saw a dozen soldiers behind Magpie.  All the guards left except one so Mo and Farid came up with a plan. They first distracted the guard saying that they came from the north, then the guard started talking about Dustfinger ad how he escaped, they took advantage and hit him on the head. Farid was really happy because Dustfinger had escaped. They were getting the torches ready to set the house on fire. Mo was searching for the matches and he saw in Dustfinger’s wallet a picture of Teresa and Farid told him that that was the girl that he liked. They broke a window and threw the torches. Mo left Farid and ran towards the football stadium. Farid waited a little longer and then he shouted fire, fire and left.

Elinor and Teresa were in the football field they saw Meggie pass by she smiled at them and Elinor made a joke. She sat down on a chair and waited for the orders to read. Capricorn gave a speech about stupidity and treachery and there was a bell, which alerted fire but Capricorn didn't pay attention. Elinor kept cursing Capricorn but no one listened to her.  Capricorn raised a bloody fabric and continue the speech. Elinor begged for a happy ending for she didn't like a sad one. Capricorn continued with his speech. Later Darius ran in with the casket which had the snakes reaching for Magpie. Mortola took the snakes out and handed the book to Meggie. Instead of a folded triangle in the top corner, it had a black book mark. Meggie was about to read it but Flatnose came running telling Capricorn that the fire was getting bigger and bigger so Capricorn made him take 10 man. Capricorn was afraid of the fire so he told his man not to be afraid, he also cursed the one who started the fire. Fengolio saw Maggie's sign which has putting her hair in the back. As soon as he saw this, Fengolio began to say that Meggie should read because he didn't want his character to commit murder. He ran but Cockerell captured him really fast. He gave enough time so that Meggie could take out the paper and put it in the book. She began reading the actual book not Fengolio's writing. Suddenly the shadow appeared but she kept reading. The
shadow stood there watching Meggie. She read that the shadow should hear her and not Capricorn he asked for people to stop her but no one did. She outright read the end for it said that Capricorn was going to die but someone came and read it from the back, it was Mo. Fengolio disappeared into the book.  Capricorn was dead lying on the floor motionless and the shadow didn’t move. Half of the men in the stadium disappeared but not Magpie. She was still retained by Darius but she wasn’t fighting any more. She had sad tears running down her face. Darius let go. Meggie hugged Mo. Mo wanted to introduce Meggie to someone who he was in the cell but she already knew her. The shadow moved towards Capricorn so Meggie raised the book and found the paper that Fengolio wrote and read it, so all the people and animals that the shadow had killed came to life again, trolls fairies children and humans started appearing and the shadow was just a pile of ashes. Basta was still alive inside the cage when Farid opened it. He took rest and said that if they didn't let him go, he will kill her but Elinor stood up and when he was about to punch him in the face. Basta pushed Resa and ran away disappearing into the night just like Mortola. Mo couldn't stop looking at Teresa, he was really happy. Finally the family was together. They stayed one more night in the village since there were no cars in the parking lot because everyone ran away. Meggie had many questions since she didn't know if Fengolio was ok. Before Meggie crossed her eyes beside the tree, she saw Elinor who was having a great time with the fairies and she saw Teresa writing as if she was telling what happened to Mo.

Dustfinger saw everything that happened on the football field. He went down the roof top and grabbed the book of two blue fairies. He left towards the coast, Farid followed him. They found Gwin and walked.

Mo woke up and the book wasn’t there. Neither was Farid so he knew it was Dustfinger. Meggie talked about Fengolio with Mo, she wanted him to be safe. Teresa also was in the conversation, she answered Meggie that Fengolio landed on a good story. There were still
some doubts if Capricorn was still alive in the book or things like that. Teresa told Meggie that he will be ok, because there was much beauty in it. The called a taxi, they went to the village rented a van and came back. Elinor took some of the creatures that the shadow let go when he died.  Every other creature that didn’t want to go, including Tinker Bell will be safe in the village since they had a place to stay. Forty three blue fairies came, four trolls, and Darius came with them. He offered Elinor to build her library again. Elinor brought many books to her house; sometimes Mo and Daruis went. The fairies and trolls came out at night and played near the lake. Elinor was afraid since they are mythical creatures that if they are exposed to many human inventions, like the car, they could get hit or something so she took good care of them. They all stayed at Elinor’s and played with the trolls and fairies. Meggie thought about her future and what she wanted to be, so she decided that words will be her trade.

There was a quote on the book that got my attention. It was when Meggie was about to leave Capricorn’s village:

“Meggie looked back for a long time as they left Capricorn’s village behind them. She knew she would never forget the sight of it, just as you never forget many stories even though- or perhaps because- they have scared you.” (Funke, 531)

I can conclude from this quote that Meggie will miss Capricorn’s village. Meggie will always remember all the things she discovered in this village. Like the power of her father, her powers, she re-united with her mother, and many things she learned. The places that only appeared in a book came to life. It seemed a fantasy and she was able to experience it.  Even in devil villages, Meggie learn how to tolerate different people and also learned the importance of family. Meggie became a better person because of this place and we are able to see how she had changed through the book.

There was another quote that got my attention. It is when Meggie and Teresa stayed at Elinor’s house when she went and bought books with Darius and Mo:

“Meggie stayed in the big house with her mother. They would sit together at a window looking out at the garden where the fairies were building themselves nests, gently glowing globes that hung among the branches of the trees.” (Funke, 532)

Meggie didn’t have any memories of her mother, so spending Mother-daughter time together was good because they got to know each other better.  Even though Resa can’t talk, she writes everything she lived the past years when she wasn’t with Meggie. Meggie could feel what it was like to be in a book.  They have fun together, and this makes a stronger family.

Inkheart has been a book which talked about many themes, like, family, memories, past and lies. I’ve learned much in this book about life, love, family and consequences. The fact that it includes magic makes the message get to the reader faster. I enjoyed reading the book. I recommend it highly because it leaves a mark and you are able to connect it to your life which makes it easier to understand.
